      <image:caption>Assistant Professor Ehssan is an assistant professor of applied physical sciences at UNC Chapel Hill. He has a BS and a MS degree in polymer engineering from Amirkabir University (Tehran, Iran). He received his PhD in Chemical Engineering from City University of New York in 2013. Afterwards, he did a postdoctoral study in Courant Institute of mathematical sciences (NYU) and Center for Computational Biology at Simons Foundation, before joining APS on July 2017. His research focuses on theoretical and computational study of soft and biological materials, including suspensions, membranes, biopolymers, and cellular matter. He holds a master’s in Engineering Technology from the University of Houston where he built a remarkable background in complex fluids and suspension mechanics. His doctorate project is focused on cytoskeletal active matter, particularly, he studies the underlying physical principles for mitotic spindle formation and faithful chromosome segregation.
